What Is The Indian Administrative Services?

The number of ias coaching centres in Chennai are increasing by leaps and bounds every year. More and more institutes are opening thanks to the growing popularity of civil services as a career option. Therefore, to help aspirants understand the administrative services better, we bring you a short history of it. The Indian Administrative Services were initially called the Imperial Civil Services, i.e. ICS.

At present, it is one of the toughest exams in India which is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission or as it is commonly called UPSC every year. The examinations originated in 1858 as ICS and in 1950 got switched to IAS. The exam recruits officers for more than 20 branches of civil services with the administrative services being the most premier. The 24 services have a set hierarchy that goes like this IAS, IPS, IFS, etc.

The IAS is also known as the executive branch of the country and is one of the fields whose offices can be employed by State and Central Government along with Public Sector Undertakings. Though IAS forms the permanent bureaucracy of the nation and is still the most prestigious of positions, the other branches are equally important when it comes to serving the country.
